The Anesthesia Research Center (ARC) brings together essential research resources within the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Central to the departments mission, ARC exists to support investigators throughout the research process in an effort to optimize study design and execution, regulatory oversight and statistical methods for department investigations.

ARC consists of clinical research coordinators and fellows, data scientists, statisticians and research administrators with extensive experience in clinical research. By providing a robust research infrastructure, ARC aims to facilitate clinical research endeavors, ensure regulatory compliance, train the next generation of clinician-scientists, and ultimately produce and publish high-impact clinical investigations.

MISSION

Research has been part of the hospital’s mission since its founding more than 200 years ago. The DACCPM at MGH is committed to supporting this mission and has an extensive history of research, including innovations that form the foundation of our specialty. Today, the ARC extends these groundbreaking investigations by providing a research infrastructure that supports investigators in their conduct of clinical research studies. Specifically, the ARC aims to:

  • Leverage departmental resources in the coordination of both grass-root and high quality clinical research efforts that ensures efficiency, regulatory compliance, adequate protections for the rights and welfare of human research subjects, and integrity of the study data, while concurrently influencing the future development of novel medical care

  • Support observational and outcomes research by expanding the data acquisition/retrieval and analytic capacities of the department, including coordination of outside resources and databases.

By bringing together the essential resources for department investigators, we strive to be the example of excellence in the conduct of anesthesiology, perioperative, critical care and pain medicine research.
